Sometimes you'll want to give customers access to certain elements they can use in a template, but those specific elements won't be included in your design. For example, let’s say you create a mermaid birthday invitation. You use a mermaid element that has red hair, but you want to offer multiple styles of mermaids with different types of hair and hair colors. You won’t include them all in your design, but want the customer to have the freedom to customize when they are designing themselves.
Why assign elements to a template?
This is a great option for place card templates. Imagine you have a place card template with food options. You want to give your customer the ability to add different food option svg icons to each place card template (depending on the guest's choice.) This is very easy to do with the Assigned Elements feature. With this feature, your customer will see the assigned elements right in their Elements pane when they have that template open. They simply need to click the element to add it to their template.
Assigned Elements will only be shown in the Elements pane when the template is open. So they won't have access to these specific elements for use on other templates in their account.
Previously, sellers would create a new template with all the elements that the customer could use and they would have to copy and paste them into the template. This was not a very good user experience. In fact, it was very frustrating for them. If you were doing this, please switch to using the Assigned Elements instead, to give your customer the very best editing experience.
How to Assign Elements to a Template
Make sure the designed template is saved before assigning elements to it.
- Open the template that you'd like to assign elements to.
- Open the Template Settings, in the right side panel.
- Scroll to the bottom and click the Assigned Elements button.
- Click each element that you'd like to assign to the template.
You can also create and assign a group of elements to a template and reuse that group in other templates, instead of selecting all of the elements each time.
How to Create a Group of Elements to Assign
To create a group of elements that you can reuse in other templates:
- Open the Assigned Elements window, then select all of the elements that you want to include in a group.
- Once you have two or more elements selected, you'll see an option (in the bottom left corner of the window) that shows a button and an input field for a group name.
- Type a name for the group.
- Then, click the "Group Selected Elements" button.
Now you have a group of elements that can be assigned to templates. You'll see that all of the elements you've assigned to the current template have been replaced with the group.
How to Assign a Group to a Template
You'll notice this group has been added to the Groups tab in the window. When you assign this group to a new template, you'll click the Groups tab. Then, select the group you'd like to assign to the template.
Editing a Group of Assigned Elements
You can edit a group at any time by clicking on the Groups tab. Then, click the Edit icon for that group.
The elements will show up in the customer's Elements pane in the same order that you assign them to the template/ or the order you added them to the group. (Keep that in mind if you want to have them displayed in a particular order.)
