Sometimes, you’ll want to protect certain elements or text in your design so customers can’t accidentally move or change them. That’s where the lock feature comes in — giving you more control over what’s editable in your templates.
How to Lock an Object
-
Click on the object you want to lock
-
In the top toolbar, select “Lock Options”
-
You’ll see several toggle settings under Lock Properties, depending on the type of object selected
Here’s what each option does:
-
Lock selection – Prevents the customer from selecting the object at all. This also means they won’t be able to move, resize, delete, or edit it.
-
Lock movement – The object can still be edited (e.g., text, colors), but it can’t be moved from its position.
-
Lock color – Prevents customers from changing the object’s color(s).
-
Lock text editing – Keeps the text content inside a text box from being changed.
-
Lock font – Prevents the customer from changing the font style.
-
Lock font size – Keeps the font size locked so it can’t be resized.
What Happens When an Object Is Locked
When an object is selected, it appears with a blue dashed outline. Once locked, the outline changes to grey to indicate that it’s locked.
As the designer, you can still move and edit it while it's selected. Once you click off, it becomes locked for the customer.
How to Unlock an Object
To unlock:
-
Open the Layers panel
-
Select the locked object
-
The toolbar will appear again, and you can toggle off any lock settings
The lock options give you full control over what your customers can customize — helping you preserve your design while still giving them flexibility where it counts.
