We have three ways for you to sell your templates. You can choose any one of them or a combination, if you choose.
Etsy is a great place to sell editable templates. It's got the largest market for editable templates on the web, with millions of customers looking for and ready to purchase templates all the time. Etsy has built in traffic so you could open a shop and start selling right away without ever needing to think about driving traffic to your shop.
While there are many upsides to selling on Etsy, there are also some downsides. There is a lot of competition on Etsy. Your shop has to compete in rankings amongst thousands of other shops all trying to get attention. Luckily, there are a lot of people looking to purchase templates on Etsy but getting started is always going to be an uphill battle. Once you get established with hundreds of listings, you'll find that it doesn't feel so hard at that point.
While Etsy is a great selling platform that can really bring in some serious revenue to your business, you may still want to open a shop outside of Etsy that you control completely.
Shopify is a platform for building your own ecommerce store. This is your own website and is not connected to any kind of selling platform. There are lots of benefits to having your own website but there are some drawbacks too.
One main advantage to having your own website is that when a user finds it and visits it, they are going to be looking at your items only. The downside is that you need to get the visitor to your site in the first place, and that's not always easy at first.
Driving traffic to your own website is the single hardest thing to do and it's why having a shop on a platform like Etsy is also a great idea since it has built in traffic. Once you develop a brand with repeat customers, you can drive those customers back to your own website so they don't get overwhelmed with all the other choices from a platform like Etsy.
Wordpress with Woocommerce
Woocommerce is an ecommerce plugin for Wordpress. Wordpress is a free blogging and website platform that powers millions of websites across the web. Supposedly, 33% of all websites use Wordpress. That's a lot of websites and it's a good reason to consider using Wordpress to power your own website.
Lots of big companies use Woocommerce to power their shops, that's why we decided that it would be a good plugin to integrate with. It's fairly easy to setup and use, plus it's free.
Having a Wordpress site has a lot of the same advantages and disadvantages as a Shopify store except you won't have a monthly bill to use Wordpress like you would with Shopify.
Whichever of these three platforms you decide to use, the process of selling editable templates with Templett is very similar with all of them and the customer experience is virtually the same.
